I Miss Travel - The Blog

Do you miss travel? You’re not alone. In January 2020, Write Away Travel began as a resource for bucket list travelers, solo travelers and writers.  With a background in journalism and Canadian and EU passports in hand, I was ready to take 2020 by storm. I gained my TICO travel agent license not long after obtaining my long awaited EU citizenship. I dreamt of hiking Icelandic glaciers (again) and trekking through Machu Picchu (finally).

Then the COVID lockdown happened.

Things would be back to normal in two weeks. Remember that?

You know the rest.

Travel is still technically possible to some areas, but the rules, restrictions and costs invovled have taken the spontaneaty, excitement and affordability away for most of us. More importantly, it is still not considered safe or responsible to be partaking in international leasure travel while case numbers continue to climb in most regions.

For us wanderlusters, those original two weeks in 2020 feel like forever.

waiting for travel

We traveled on a budget. We could only take two weeks off work. We enjoyed finding last minute deals and going away for a few days on a whim. We backpacked for months at a time. We worked in restaurants and hotels in foreign cities as an excuse to travel and see new places. Whatever our travel style was in 2019, it hasn’t existed as such since March 2020. We are bored, antsy, missing long distance friends, longing to see and do something new and so much more.

While we remain safe and wait for travel to be a thing again, I’m looking forward to growing this nostalgic-themed space for hodophiles and pretty much anyone aching to get out of the house and do things again.

Until then, enjoy the store, resources and other ideas I’ll be thinking of on my next exciting trip to the grocery store.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stay safe and don’t touch your face,

Leslie
